The Person I Admire
There are many things that would be viewed as extraordinary, but to my mum, most of these things are part of her daily endeavours. The sound of an alarm half past four in the morning marks her character of an early riser. The alarm is followed by a keen but fast preparation just to ensure that five o’clock in the morning does not find her off guard. It is a time; she has to be through with her morning grooming, a few minutes before she begins her journey round the town to inspect the morning guards working in her security company. Footsteps of this white, bold, tall, blond, beautiful, inspirational and hardworking lady, wakes me up just before she starts her car for a daily routine. This is none other than my mother, Rosaline Clinton.
Born in the 1970s, my mother has never tired to do what she has done for the last 20 years. At one time I decided to inquire the motivation behind her zeal. The part of the story that she gave me did not only leave me with the sense of hard work but also the enthusiasm to do so. That is the day she revealed to me the origin of the security company. It began with a brainstorm between mum and dad on how they would get out of poverty. The meeting was after a long time of living in a slum. So, that night, my father who was a newspaper vendor brought in the idea of starting a security company. It required a few dollars for registration and the human capital which was favourable to them.
Since my father articulated the idea to my mother with great passion, it took them almost the whole night meditating and planning on it. That same evening they concentrated on laying the mission and vision statements and strategic planning towards implementation. The following day, dad did not report for the job, and they set off to register the company. In a month’s time, the documents were set, and they majored in marketing it. However, the bitter part of the story that mums revealed in the midst of tears was that my father died in a fatal road accident that mum survived. It was about two months after the company had kicked off. Better still, is the fact that the dream never died with my dad.
Using the vision and the passion mum managed to educate us and to take herself to a nursing school before becoming a nurse in a paediatric centre. Therefore, after the inspection of the guards and updating the records, she leaves for her job in the centre. My mother has never been late for her job. Also, she does her studies in the evening shortly after our family meeting that we update her on the day’s activities. She is always updated on our progress. She also ensures that she has gotten an update from the housekeeper where she is a landlady.
What we have observed as children is not enough. She is not only a mother, but also a mentor. She talks with passion and clarity. Her articulation of words makes her an excellent orator worth emulation and it leaves me mesmerized. Her ability to multitask and manage time is more than a lesson to me. While I have always admired my mum, her morality and character have always set bars so high that they require me to step up my game in all I do. Her academic credentials encourage me to put more effort in my academic endeavors.
