MLA Formatting and Why Use It
In academic writing, integrity is not only important, but also a necessity in presenting information and knowledge gained. After studying the content the MLA citation style, I have come to conclude that the style provides a great deal of integrity, which is a key requirement in research writing. Therefore, I was curious to learn the main aspects of the MLA citation style and how it helps an academic writer to promote academic integrity. The MLA also promotes academic integrity because it requires citations done and specific page numbers given, from where the external information is sourced from. This makes the style one of the most specific academic writing styles. I learned that the MLA allows a researcher to recognize the full names of the author in the works cited page. Unlike the APA that only takes the last name and initials, MLA requires the last name and the other names. This makes MLA the citation style that I find appropriate. This influenced my choice of MLA as it promotes academic integrity is what I learned and prioritized most in my mind.
In addition, I learned that knowledge sourced from other people’s work should be acknowledged in the last page as “Works Cited.” I realized the acknowledgement communicates to the reader that the information presented in a piece of academic writing is credible. In this regard, I learned that one of the most important ways of avoiding plagiarism and presenting academically valid writings is through the listing of the sources in this “Works Cited” Page. Moreover, MLA style allows the writer to state personal information and that of the institution being presented to, all on page one. Therefore, I find MLA being a good and an appropriate style to present academic writings. More importantly, I gained knowledge of how to become a better academic writer in my academic course.
