Online Learning Strategies
Planning is crucial for online nursing students, and any other student. Unlike normal studies, online studies do not have a university timetable. A student will have to plan their schedule according their needs. A study calendar is a good planning strategy (Cannady et al, 2013). Since online students are usually working part time, sometimes other commitments may get in the way of study time. Drawing a study calendar and adhering to it will ensure that the student allocates adequate time for studies.
A good online student should login to the learning system and check the schedule on a daily basis in order to be constantly updated. Allocating a small portion of one’s day to checking in on the studies is a good strategy for time management (Crawley, 2012). Checking daily allows the students ample time to do assignments. It also reduces the time spent while reading for the final exams because the student is already updated.
The best communication strategy is to ask questions and interact with fellow students (Lytle, 2013). It is important to ask the tutor questions because unlike normal classes, the student will not have the privilege of hearing the tutor repeat the same point in the next class. Communicating with other students allows the online student to share knowledge with the rest and maybe catch a grasp of some crucial points he might have overlooked while doing his personal studies.
It is important to invest in quality technology because technology is the basis of online learning (Sheey, 2012). It is very frustrating when an online student wants to check in but their computer fails them. In addition, online students should ensure that their devices are regularly serviced. Just to be on the safe side, an online student should have alternative means of checking in.
