GMO Article Critique
The article by Walia argues against GMOs and advocates the creation of awareness about the use of GMO food. To resent the argument, Walia makes assumptions that influence the reader to view GMOs in the perspective of the website. The author assumes that GMOs are dangerous to human and plant health. At the same time, Walia assumes that the world can have sufficient food production without the use of the GMOs. This is in addition to the author’s assumption that the current world can feed the population without the use of GMOs. According to Walia (1), people do not need GMOs because the planet can be fed through organic food.
The author has the hidden of value of value for organic products or materials rather than technologically enhanced production. In addition, the author presents a bias over the use of GMOs by suggesting that they are a significant cause of diseases. However, the information presented by the author is accurate enough to hold his argument. The information is accurate because it reflects the findings of the research quoted by the author. Just as presented, a research in Canada found multiple toxins in maternal and fetal blood from GMOs (Aris and Samuel 5).
Therefore, the authors can make the same conclusion with the information they are making. This is because they hold the same view and attitude towards the use of GMOs, and rely on the same information. The conclusion arrived from an argument is influenced by the facts, perception and the attitude of the person making it (Myers 31). While there may be other information to refute what Walia presents, the conclusion is based on the information he presents and the argument against GMOs.
