Company logos help organizations to physically represent its purpose and activities to the society. This is because logos are business symbols that give a society the physical platform of relating their meanings about organizations (Godwyn & Gittell, 2011). For instance, a consumer learns of a company’s product during shopping and recognizes them through the company symbols (Kendall, 2015). The same logos present proper symbols that help the companies to influence buying behavior of people through marketing (Kendall, 2015).
Upon identifying the logo for Apple, the first thing that comes into my mind is the iPhone and a Macintosh. According to Kendall (2015), symbols provoke us to derive meanings in our life and associate different aspects of life that are related to the meanings. This is the reason why my creation of the mental picture of the iPhone leads to the image of Steve Jobs and his great innovations. On the other hand, my identification of the Starbucks Coffee logo brings me the good feeling of the coffee I shared with a team of friends at a Starbucks Coffee store. The image also brings the pictures of the Starbucks Coffee packages in the house.
I came to understand these logos from using the products that are associated with the companies represented by the trademark logos. I came to understand the Apple Inc logo from a Macintosh computer that my father had in the house. He allowed us to use it, and I got to admire the apple logo. Then later my mum bought an iPhone with the same logo, which I highly loved and admired. I came to understand the Starbucks Coffee logo from the coffee packages that we shopped with my mum, and later in the media. I realized the company behind the coffee and ultimately got to enjoy the coffee at a Starbucks Coffee store with my family, while I was still young.
Apple Inc and Starbucks have significantly impacted on the society. The Apple Inc company has changed the communication by introducing new devices and advanced mobile phones with better functionalities. Apple Inc has also changed the computing practice by introducing better computers and software. The two changes have enhanced socialization through mobile and computer communication solutions. Moreover, Apple has revolutionized entertainment, especially the music industry by making it easy to access music through iTunes. On the other hand, Starbucks Coffee has changed the way people view coffee and created a new liking for the commodity. As a result, Starbucks Coffee has facilitated socialization by allowing people to share coffee at the Starbucks stores. In conclusion, the two logos represent the changes the two companies have made in the social dimensions of people.
