The origin, development and the success of resistance against the government or the political powers in a country depends on the issues being addressed by the resenting group. One of the most successful resistance movements in the world was the Marxist revolutionary protests led by Che Guevara and influenced the Cuban Revolution. He led a successful expedition across South America, which came to be remembered through the memoir “The Motorbike Diaries” in the 1950s. The revolutionary ideas and movement led to resistance movements in many South American countries, with Cuba being the most remarkable. His role in the Cuban revolution sets the Cuban resistance the most significant and successful resistance movements.

The main issues that led to the resistance movement in Cuba, as well as other South American countries were dictatorial rule, unemployment, disregard for human rights and corruption. The movement sought to address these issues by taking over the dictatorial government of Fulgencio Batista and introduce social reforms. This was genuine as it attracted support from other countries, and Che Guevara supported the revolution as a key member. As a result, they started military strategies as well as protest methods to force the government out of power.

The use of military was necessitated by the level of the military might of the dictatorial government that was backed by the United States. They used guerrilla warfare and claimed victory in the final assault in 1959. The success of the revolution led to the prosecution of those guilty of human rights abuse in the Batista’s dictatorial government. The revolutionists also introduced a socialist government. The new government led by Fidel Castrol and Che Guevara introduced social reforms, established communist rule and worked to reduce unemployment and corruption. This gave room for a more socialist state and a more stable government that originated from a resistance movement.
