“In what ways and to what extent do the readings in this section reinforce, challenge, and/or revise the concepts of leadership from the readings”
The readings reinforce the importance of leadership programs that seek to identify, develop and nurture leadership qualities in an organization. The standards of leadership are maintained through the structures of an organization. Rosh and Kussel (2010) express the broad definitions and expansive categories that add to the ambiguity of leadership without proper nurturing. On the other hand, Medina (2011) explores the importance of leadership training programs in an organization. The readings further reinforce the assertion that leadership must nurture the right ethics by portraying the needed qualities. The readings explore the qualities that define the leadership and how they help leaders influence people in an organization. For instance, Thompson et al (2010) describes the ethics of leadership and the importance of ethical leadership in an organization.
“Examine and discuss the ways the story becomes more apparent and significant in relation to leadership in this set of texts, perhaps more so than in the first grouping. Which texts make this link most obvious and how do they do so?”
The readings become more apparent and significant to concepts of leadership as an art of influencing people in the organization or society. The readings define leadership from a broad level of understanding that aim of concluding that the main role of leading is influencing. The readings provide a wide view of understanding the areas of discipline that leadership seeks to influence the behavior of people. The reading by Medina reinforces more that leadership is an art of influencing people. Medina (2011) explores the discussion of whether leadership is an art or a science, by discussing the process of becoming a leader and linking it to different social environments. This reinforces the importance of leadership in management and in an organization.
“In what ways does your own conception of leadership mesh with or diverge from the readings so far?”
My own conception of leadership meshes well with the readings and do not diverge from their arguments. Having a past practice in leadership, my conception of leadership is wide and appreciates the fact that leaders are raised through the nurturing of the innate traits that all people are born with. Through the recognition that leadership is important to manage and influence the behavior of people, I agree with the different perspectives that the readings defined and applied application in different aspects in an organization.
“What do you find most interesting, revealing, strange, compelling, and/or surprising about the readings”
The most interesting thing about the readings is their application of leadership in almost every aspect of the society or in an organization. The readings discuss diverse aspects of leadership that expanded my view of leadership to acknowledge that leadership is required everywhere. I particularly liked the discussion of leadership in organizational functions, social environments, ethical practices, educational matters, gender diversities, innovation and nursing leadership among other areas. It was interesting to read about the readings about the need of social environment in an organization towards the enhancement of leadership in the individuals. This resonates with the value that organizations place on their employees as the social capital of an organization. This is an important aspect of leadership that can be used to mentor and nurture people towards leadership.

The readings reinforce the importance of leadership in an organization and the role it plays in management. By focusing on the role of leadership in different aspects of management of an organization, the readings seek to explore the application of leadership qualities. Therefore, the readings reinforce the need for leadership in creating an effective environment for management in an organization. Moreover, becoming a leader is described as the aspect that makes people manage and influence the behavior of people effectively. According to Medina (2011), leadership is not only inborn but also determined by the traits that people gain to give the desired results in an organization.
