Introduction Part
Communication process in an organization is important when it is effective in passing of information, ideas, and strategies and facilitates business processes. However, communication is a process that is directly affected by external factors of business environment such as location, social and cultural diversities of the country where a business enterprise is based. When a company is based in a location different from the domicile country, it has to handle the communication process across the cultural differences that exist between the two countries. According to Dobkin and Roger (2006), intercultural communication in an organization presents challenges to the internal and external communication process of a firm. These challenges present a need for the management of multinational companies to handle the diversities that come with business enterprises in different countries globally.
Google is one of the companies that have business interests and operations in virtually all the countries in the world. This makes the company an appropriate case to study and so explore the business-related communication that is appropriate for such companies with global business. To understand the communication challenge in different countries, this paper explores Japan and the business interactions in the country that influences business transactions by the case company, Google Inc. The paper explores the cultural norms, social values and communication processes as well as communication patterns in Japan that influence the business operations by Google in Japan. In addition, this paper will explore the differences that between Japan and United States that influence workplace behavior and cultural norms both at work and away from work.
The differences that exist between the countries are based on the demographic and geographic diversities that are unique to each country. These diversities and differences influence the extent of influence of the management of a company to negotiate with other companies, resolve conflicts between two parties in the course of business operations (Dowling et al, 2012). The case of Google in Japan will explore the decision making processes of the company and how it is made in consideration of the intercultural differences that influence communication. The role that people in an organization play in the workplace will also be explored in terms of power distance, interaction of the managers with the staff, as they relate to the environment of different country.
Conclusion Part
The differences between the countries are based on the social and cultural diversities that exist between countries. These diversities influence the business process, especially communication, which is a major management process. By taking Google Inc. as a case, this paper explored the differences that exist between the United States and Japan with a view to understanding the influence on the business processes. Business operations in the company such as negotiations with other companies and business decision making process through meetings are influenced by the cultural diversities between Japan and United States.
In addition, conflict resolution between parties in the company or within the external business environment of the firm in Japan is influenced by the intercultural communication and the differences that exist between the two countries. Moreover, the intercultural differences between Japan and United States that influence communication also affect the role of people in the workplace, especially in terms of interaction between the staff or the management. This emanates from the differences in expectations in terms of acceptable and unacceptable behavior in the workplace as dictated by the different cultural norms at work or outside the business environment.
