Children are Better of Growing Up in the Countryside
The raising of children into responsible and successful people is as highly influenced by their environment as explained by the proponents of the nurture concept of personality. In modern day, there is a debate on which region between cities and the countryside is the best for raising children. The debate ranges on the advantages and disadvantages of each of the regions as they relate to raising children. The discussion on the debate will illustrate that children are better of growing up in the countryside than in the cities.
The life of a child needs all-round playing activities because they are important for both the psycho motor and cognitive development. While the city provides these opportunities, the countryside gives a better opportunity for the child to play and exercise. This is because the countryside provides large space and fields for playing. This is characteristically marked by larger playing fields at school and compounds at home. This is lacking in cities where the space is limited, occupied by commercial establishments, and children are mostly driven to school. It is important to recognize that both the cities and the countryside offer different opportunities for children to play, but the countryside has a bigger impact on the child.
With the increase in crime levels in the cities due to congestion and unemployment, the security of children is not guaranteed. This is in contrast with the life in the countryside where crime levels are low. This means that it is safer to raise a child in the rural areas than in the cites due to the comparative levels of crime rates. In terms of urban developments, cities offer a higher risk of accidents and traffics insecurity compared to the countryside that has a less infrastructural constrains to movement. While there are crime levels in both the city and the countryside, the rates in the countryside are less. This does not mean there are no safety risks, as there are those that are associated with wildlife in rural areas. However, life in the countryside is more safer to raise children.
The social life of the rural areas further makes the countryside better for raising children compared to cities. In the countryside, children are able to interact with the members of their extended families since the social set up allows families to grow together or nearer. This is because life in the countryside is set up in village systems with stronger social ties that promote more cohesive family set up and communal life. On the other hand, cities have a less cohesive social life with people busy in their work and careers that they have less time to spend with relatives. Therefore, a child would grow better socially in the countryside.
While life in the city has more facilities, the countryside presents a better environment for raising children. The playing activities and entertainment facilities in the cities are better, but also become the distracters to a wholesome growth of a child. This is because life in cities is less social with people busier at work than at home. Therefore, the advantages of city life are far much inferior compared to the advantages and environment provided by the countryside. The countryside is safer, has higher social life and provided better playing space than the cities. The social and safer life in the countryside is better for the wholesome growth of children. Therefore, children are better of being raised in the countryside than in the cities.
