Rationale behind an Evaluation tool

An evidence based change project involves making clinical decisions using the available evidence. Sometimes these decisions may be beneficial or disastrous. The role of an evaluation tool in such a scenario would be to determine the efficacy of the project (Ilic, 2009). The evaluation seeks to find out if the people responsible for the evidence-based project are doing their job effectively. For instance, if the evaluation tool finds out that the project has not achieved half of the intended objectives, the evaluator can conclude that the project is not living up to its full potential.

An evaluation tool will help to detect the areas that are affecting the efficacy of the change project. For instance, if the change project turns out to be ineffective, the evaluation tool will scrutinize every step of the procedure. A final report will recommend the areas that need to change. For instance, the evaluation tool may reveal that the available evidence is not adequate for the change project. In this case, the involved parties will need to seek more evidence before making a decision on the change project.

An evaluation tool uses past experience to set the standard for the current evidence based change project. Most of the evaluation tools are designed based on experiences regarding the subject matter. In this regard, the evaluation tool will be able to put the change project in historical context and find out its efficacy thus far. In addition, the evaluation tool will offer solutions towards problems that impair the current change project because the evaluators already experienced similar problems in the past. It is in this regard that institution should consider adopting an evaluation tool for their evidence based change projects.
